V.R.&P.C. Annual Long Range Buffalo Shoot and Plainsman Camp
                                                                                       (AKA- "Buffalo Camp")
Typically held the weekend following Labor Day.

                                                       Main Match-  30 iron buffaloes/ 30 shots - 12 minutes

Scores determined by target knockdowns, hits that don't knockdown determine tiebreakers, and/or shortest time.
Herd stretches from about 75 to approx. 350 yards.

Categories:
          >Traditional class-Black powder loads,  period appropriate arms, accoutrements and clothing
          >Open class- anything else; if you use black powder but dress with a ball cap and jeans, or if you use very appropriate arms and                 equipment but shoot smokeless, duplex, and/or BP subs, its open class
          >Muzzleloader class- yep, its a challenge to get 30 aimed shots off in 12 minutes, but a few will sure try! Springfield muskets with                 Minie' bullets do better than one would expect..

Subcategories:

            >Tang sights ( any tang mounted soule, vernier or other tang sight)
            >Barrel sights- any barrel mounted sights including, but not limited to:  Remington "Rough & Ready, Lawrence ladder, Springfield                 Buffington and the like.
            >Scope class- any mounted optical sight, traditional class would be Malcolm style tube scopes.

Typical buffalo guns include 1874 Sharps, Remington Rolling blocks,Trapdoor Springfields, Ballards , 1885 Winchesters, Maynards;  but you may see Martini Henrys, 71 Mausers, Needham conversions, and a plethora of others- and of course big bore lever guns.
If there are enough, we'll have a "military rifle" class as well.

Other notes:
Cast or swaged lead alloy bullets only!!  No hot smokeless loads!
Keep smokeless loads to Black powder velocity- high velocity loads crater the mild steel targets!
This is a fun match to participate, spot targets and/or spectate. Not to mention the abundance of good food and fellowship.

Side matches:
               >Coyotes and crows- 15 shots, knock downs for score (hits that don't go down are tie breakers.) Both offhand and cross                               stick classes are offered.
               >Trail walk- Ten or more "game" targets hidden along the trail, including running deer, small game and dangerous game targets.
Pistol caliber handguns or long guns or 'stalking' rifles, or muzzleloaders
The trail walk is a great hunting simulation, locate the game targets, and hit for score. Timed event to determine tie breakers.                       It may include building a fire with flint and steel, setting a trap, and/or stick a tomahawk.
                >Front Range matches- Targets are spread from about 25 out to 100 yards
                       >.22 Gopher shoot - 30 shots, knock downs for score ( hits that don't go down are tie breakers.) Offhand and bench                                       classes.
                       >.22  SSS shoot- Ten shots, little tiny wolves and buffaloes.  Knock downs for score. (hits that don't go down are tie                                         breakers.) ,  Off hand

                       >Muzzleloader- Ten buffaloes and/or prairie dogs. Knock downs for score (hits that don't go down are tie breakers.) ,  Off                                 hand
                       >Revolvers- Same course of fire as muzzleloader
                       >Tom Horn- Rifle caliber lever guns 10 buffaloes, knock downs for score ( hits that don't go down are tie breakers.) ,  Off                                 hand

                       >Buffalo carbine- Same course as Tom Horn
                       >Running moose- Lever guns or old west period pump actions, rifle or pistol caliber. First knock down the pepper popper                               to release the moose, as many hits as you can get on the moose before it stops. Score is number of hits on moose                                     minus the number of shots to knock down the popper.

Great fun, challenging and exciting to watch.

We'll have the cannon out for live fire demos, hopefully I'll get the Gatling tuned in and ready to rock!

Camp out for the event, period camps or modern. No water or hookups. Potluck meals, plenty of buffalo meat!
Visiting around the campfire in the evening - Life doesn't get much better...
